WHERE IT`S COOL TO WORK
As many as 3.5 million people are estimated to be employed in the food and drink industry in Britain.
Perhaps you haven’t thought of food and drink as being one of the more exciting sectors to work in? But, when you think about the types of food that you can buy now in the shops, or eat in restaurants, compared to 10 years ago, you must admit that things have changed a lot.
Everyone enjoys eating and people are always wanting to try something new. Maybe they’ve tried food abroad on holiday that they want to be able to buy here; or they are on a diet and want to have meals with low salt/low fat/low carbohydrate, that are quick and easy to cook. Whatever, the fashions for food are constantly changing and it certainly keeps the food and drink industry on its toes, spotting new trends and developing new recipes and products to suit.
Hopefully you can start to see why the food and drink industry can be a very exciting and challenging place to work.
Meat is a key part of this important industry. Billions of pounds are spent on meat in the UK each year. Over 170,000 people are estimated to work in the UK meat sector and there is a huge variety of opportunities awaiting you. As well as the general opportunities that are available in most industries, like Sales and Marketing, IT, Engineering, Finance, Quality Assurance and Production, there are also some specialist areas specific to food.
Have you thought about becoming a Food Technologist, for example? Or a Meat Hygiene Inspector? Perhaps you would be interested in training as a Butcher?
Whatever your interests, qualifications, skills and career aims, the meat industry has something exciting to offer you.
