2018 Extra Mile Award
Wednesday, 14th Nov 2018Winner: Marion Ward, Dawson Butchers, Muirkirk
Marion is always so welcoming and always asks after my family and caters to my needs. I like beef olives made with pork sausages and Marion is always obliging to make these for me. I’m usually three separate orders – my mum, gran and myself – and putting through three transactions and packing individually is never a problem.
I feel that Marion goes the Extra Mile to ensure that customer service is top priority. Marion never hesitates to make sure I get what I need. It’s such a lovely shop, a real pleasure to frequent.
Nominated by Lynsey O’Donnell
We were thrilled to hear Marion Ward has been shortlisted for the “extra mile” award.
I’m delighted that she has been nominated.
She has done so much for the shop and Muirkirk. Marion makes tablet, sells it in the shop and donates all the money to various charities. Her Grandson has just had his head shaved for charity. Marion donated £200 of her tablet money to that and has already given £100 towards our defibrillator fund raising.
She knows all our customers so well and the way they like their meat, diced or sliced? thick or thin? Lean or not? even down to whether it is plain or smoked ham in their breakfast packs!
She truly is our star!
She is celebrating her 21st Christmas with us and is an invaluable member of “Team Dawson” #teamdawson. It took me three days to convince her to attend the Awards. Diane Dawson
Finalist: Hamish Jones, John Davidsons, Elgin
Hamish is hardworking, dedicated and very good at mixing the right ingredients for very tasty sausages! He is always thinking of new recipes that we try out in the shop. Nothing is too much trouble for Hamish. He makes us laugh which makes our team a very happy team.
Nominated by Lisa Dunbar
Hamish has been with Davidson’s Specialist Butchers for approximately 12 months now and in that time I have lost count of the varieties of speciality sausages that he has created.
If you can think of a flavour then Hamish has had a bash at it!
With his catering experience, Hamish has the confidence to be adventurous in his manufacturing and the business always has some mouth watering products on sale.
Hamish has also really come out of his shell when it comes to dealing with the public. He’s always there with a smile and a bit of chat for his customers. And having created all those flavours of sausages, he is able to really sell them with accurate descriptions of what customers can expect.
Hamish now has an understudy and he is passing on the benefits of his experience to him. Quite some feat for someone who is new to the trade. His passion really shines through.

Finalist: Colin McKinnon, Blair Drummond Smiddy, Stirling
Colin’s butchery at the Smiddy is fine and great value. Colin greets every customer with enthusiasm as though they were meeting for the first time. Colin and his staff take care to establish each customer’s requirements and will tailor every product to the customer’s needs. Needless to say as a result customer satisfaction runs very high and the business is growing and now employs four full time butchers.
