GOVERNMENT SUPPORT FOR PGI

Thursday, 5th Nov 2009

SFMTA's proposal to seek PGI (Protected Geographical Indicator) status for the Lorne Sausage has gained momentum with high profile reporting in all the leading national newspapers, Scottish Television, BBC website and BBC Five Live.

Scottish Government Rural Affairs Secretary Richard Lochhead has added his support saying:“In order to enhance our reputation at home and abroad we need to protect the high quality and authenticity of Scotland’s larder.

“The Lorne Sausage should enjoy protected status as a famous Scottish food, and I fully support this application to give customers reassurance they are getting the genuine article.

“The Scottish Government has organised a seminar in December on Protected Food Names and stands ready to support potential applicants, in order to protect our internationally renowned food and drink from inferior imitations.”
