MEMBERS AT THE RHS
Friday, 23rd Jun 2006Federation members were prominent at the
Royal Highland Show held at Ingliston for the fortieth time from June 22nd
to 25th 2006. Charles MacLeod from Stornoway, TH Carson from Dalbeattie,
Frank Yorke from Dundee and Simon Howie from Perth all had a presence in
the Food Hall.
On the Quality Meat Scotland stand finalists in last year's Meat Skills Competition put on cutting and display demonstrations. Last year's Scottish Young Butcher of the Year (pictured top left) - Keith McLagan from Bruce Brymer, Brechin got things underway on the Thursday morning. Gary Raeburn (top right) from Forbes Raeburn in Huntly, runner up to Keith in 2005 provided the display on Friday and Richard Megahy, winner in the over 22 category performed on the Saturday and Sunday. |
Iain MacLeod from Stornoway was kept busy
selling his renowned Black Pudding. He enlisted the help of
his wife and daughter, to work with Shona his niece (Charlie Barley's daughter) and Donny Morrison who work in the business for the trip south.
At the QMS stand Jean Royan from Elgin stopped to admire young Gary's display. All those who promoted the independent craft butcher at this major event that was expected to attract 150,000 consumers should be applauded for their efforts. |
Gary Connacher lead the team from Simon Howie's in the Food Hall for Saturday and Sunday and on those days it was Richard Megahy who provided the skills demonstration on the QMS stand. (Saturday pictures below) |
Marion Fischer Boel, the EU Agriculture commissioner and Lady Clare MacDonald admired Gary's display. |
