Leaving the SCWS in 1966 Alex Dan Munro took his first steps in business with a mobile shop in which he served both the Isle of Harris and the Isle of Scalpay.

He was later joined at work by his younger brother Ewen.

Aquiring premises at Sunnyhill in Tarbert he opened his first static shop whilst Ewen continued to provide the mobile shop service around the rural areas.

Moving to the present location in March 1982, he continues the high standard of customer service and the provision of good food to generations of Harris folk. Ewen took control of the instore butchery.

The premises at Sunnyhill became A.D. Munro Bakery and in time AD also took over as sub-postmaster for Harris Post Office in Tarbert.

A new building was erected in 1993 to house the Harris Post Office and Royal Mail Sorting Office.

A couple of years ago he opened A.Ds Takeaway on the main street next to Rockview Bunkhouse.

A.Ds mobile shop is now a thing of the past but he continues to provide a free delivery service to the outlying areas and to the village of Tarbert, Isle of Harris.

His success is down to one thing. the people of Harris and Scalpay. Without them we would not be here today. We take this opportunity to say thank you to them and to you all.
